Within the Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) department at Caistor Yarborough Academy we offer students the opportunity to study Spanish at Key Stage 3 and 4. Currently, in Key Stage 4 students study Spanish in Year 10 and French is being studied by Year 11. In future years Spanish will be the main language offered to all students.
In addition to focusing on language learning we also encourage Key Stage 3 students to learn more about Spanish culture through mini projects, films and history. We also have popular food cooking and tasting sessions to allow students to experience real Spanish cuisine.
Key Stage 3
In Key Stage 3 students study a variety of topics including talking about yourself and others, school, the local area, hobbies, holidays, and health from Listos 1 and 2 (Spanish).
Students in Year 7 have two lessons per week; Students in Year 8 have one lesson per week. Students have access to a number of ICT programs which compliment our course books and numerous language based websites
Key Stage 4
In Key Stage 4 we follow the AQA specification for both French and Spanish. Students have three lessons per week and have the opportunity to attend extra lunch time intervention sessions for further support.
The AQA specification is made up of four elements:
Speaking- 25% Final exam
Writing- 25 % Final exam
Listening- 25% Final exam
Reading- 25% Final exam

Theme 2 – Local, national, international and global areas of interest
Theme 3 – Current and future study and employment
